Learning from life and school...
I have a degree in journalism/public relations from The University of Texas (Hook 'em, Horns!!)––and the framed diploma to prove it. Ah, UT: Beautiful buildings, beautiful people, beautiful cars. But, with 50,000 students, it's an easy place in which to lose your soul. My fondest memories? The stench of pigeon poop (especially after a rain), a firm bum courtesy of the long haul between classrooms, amateur belly dancing exhibitions in the student union...and the time I wore a "Jesus Saves" T-Shirt to class and droves of students parted before me like the Red Sea. <grin>

I've learned alot from books, conversations, and movies/TV: John Cusak remains my hunk of choice; Xena, my favorite kick-butt female. I love observing people and interacting with them. The mailman is a hoot, the building maintenance guy often offers a fresh perspective, and my best buds always remind me how much fun it is to be surrounded by kooky individuals. Chatting one-on-one with creative and positive people gets me high. I've been told that I connect easily with people. Perhaps; I am grateful at how much information they're willing to share. But in return, I play fair.

I'm still learning, every day, how to be a better human being. I know the pain of losing a pregnancy, the frustration of trying to housebreak a pup, the sweetness of being forgiven, and the pleasure of being recognized by my peers.

On-the-job training...
Before hanging my shingle as a freelancer 10 years ago, I provided public relations, marketing, and conference management support to full-time employers in exchange for a steady paycheck and gossip around the water cooler. Now I work from home...or Starbucks...or the park...penning magazine features and books. I also enjoy proofreading a budding author's novel or a college student's thesis. And for businesses and non-profits clients, I'm happy to write, proofread, and copyedit newsletters, book drafts, brochures, training manuals, ad copy, press packets, and trade show/conference collateral, as well as provide online marketing and social media training.
